Indians are not known for great sense of humour. Black humour
is still rare. But one Indian poet had this rare gift of nature in abundance.
It was Ghalib.
In one of his poems he says: Aage aati thi haal-e-dil par hansi;
Ab kisi baat par nahin aati. Literally translated: The state of heart at which
we once used to amuse has worsened so much that we have nothing left to amuse at
any more.
The couplet is still relevant.
